Man – mover, foe and victim of civilization – 1 April 2025 at 17:00

Civilizations are complex social and cultural systems. They are characterized by their mode of economy, governance, education, art, science, religion and technology. Humans both create and destroy them. How do they arise, how do they disappear? Are they driven by nature as well as culture? Do they have parallels in the communities of other animals? The Learned Society of Slovakia invites you to a discussion about communities – traditionally and non-traditionally.

The discussion will be held by archaeologist Jozef Bátora from the Institute of Archaeology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, v.v.i., political scientist Jozef Bátora Jr. from the Philosophical Faculty of Comenius University and zoologist Pavol Prokop from the Institute of Zoology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, v.v.i. and the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Comenius University.

Moderated by Jaroslav Valent.

The event will take place at the Old Lyceum – Open Society Laboratory on Konventna Street in Bratislava on Tuesday, April 1 at 5:00 pm. Free entrance.
