Opinion of the UcSS Council on the World Health Organization Global Pandemic Agreement

The Council of the Learned Society of Slovakia seriously warns against questioning the expertise based on the collaboration of teams from many countries known for high quality research. To voluntarily exclude oneself from this community by rejecting the pandemic treaty being prepared by the World Health Organization is to give up access to the results achieved by a community of global scientific excellence. Slovakia does not have sufficient capacity to analyse future potential pandemics on its own, to devise optimal strategies for protecting its population, to develop new treatments, and to do all this using only materials produced on its own territory. By rejecting the pandemic treaty, we are potentially risking our lives.
