Opinion of the UčSS Council to statements addressed to scientists
We strongly condemn the aggressive, disparaging, and untrue statements made by government representative Peter Kotlár as well as by some other representatives of the governing coalition, addressed to scientists who, at the request of the relevant ministries, conducted an analysis of samples of vaccines against Covid-19. These statements exceed the limits of freedom of expression and constitute a form of slander and damage to the reputation of an institution whose activities are based on respect for empirical data, facts, and rigorous scientific methods. Furthermore, by questioning scientific results and spreading mistrust of representatives of an internationally recognized scientific institution and proven medical practices, the government representative has been endangering the health of Slovakia’s population for a long time. Such behavior is in stark contrast to the mandate of the government that nominated him to this position. Being familiar with the long-term scientific output of the institution entrusted with the analysis, we are convinced that these results are also of high technical quality and scientific relevance.
