Statement on the Rejection of the Revision of WHO International Health Regulations
The Council of the Learned Society of Slovakia considers the rejection of the revision of the WHO International Health Regulations to be a mistake. Experience with the previous pandemic demonstrated the necessity of close cooperation among countries with advanced healthcare systems and cutting-edge basic biomedical research in designing strategies to protect the population and in the development, production, and distribution of new drugs under the acute time pressure that pandemics bring. Slovakia has the potential to contribute to such international cooperation, but lacks the capacity to address future crises solely with its own resources. Being an active part of strong international health organizations is in the interest of the health of all citizens of Slovakia. Therefore, we join the statements of Slovak medical societies.
